Earned C.A.S.E. Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) Certificate, 12-14-22
I received my BA in Sociology/Human Services from S.U.N.Y. Plattsburgh, and began my career as a substance abuse specialist for adolescents and adults in NY and CT, earning national credentialing, working in inpatient, outpatient and IOP settings. I ran the group therapy for the doctors and nurses substance recovery program in White Plains, NY, and created an educational program for family members of substance addicted individuals.
I received my Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, with a focus in Clinical Social Work, including a lengthy internship at Westchester County Medical Center, Psychiatric Unit. After completing my MSSW at Columbia University I worked as a psychiatric social worker at a long term psychiatric hospital for children in NY and managed a small private practice in North White Plains, NY. Upon its closing, I left my position at High Point Hospital to become a social worker for the State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families, as this offered an opportunity to serve my community in a social work capacity in CT. At the Department of Children and Families I served children and families of the Greater Danbury area who experienced trauma, significant psychiatric issues, violence and poverty. I also worked as a Hotline response worker for 10 years, responding to crisis events with families statewide. I have extensive experience with Superior Court Juvenile Matters and advocating for traumatized and psychiatrically vulnerable children and adults in their home settings, foster care and within their school systems. I have just completed the Training for Adoption Competency course at UConn.
I utilize concepts of family systems, cognitive behavioral and psychosocial development theory to provide needed skills to help empower children and adults to heal trauma and have a safe place to improve individual functioning and family interactions.
